four slices of cheesy garlic ciabatta

Cheesy Garlic Bread

Cowbridge Kitchen

My favourite Garlic Bread is Cheesy Garlic Bread, you can make this bread at home with just a few simple ingredients. I have used Ciabatta bread for a more authentic Italian taste.

The best thing about this Garlic Bread recipe is that you can use any cheese you like to create a truly unique taste every time.

You can use all sorts of bread to make this recipe, Sourdough, Focaccia or as I have done Ciabatta. I find this type of Italian bread the best type as it is porous and light.

How to make Cheesy Garlic Bread

side of garlic bread with spaghetti bolognese

If you are thinking about having an Italian meal such as Tagliatelle al Ragu, Lasagne or even Meatballs then the chances are you will want to have some Garlic Bread on the side.

This recipe for Garlic Bread is rustic and authenticfully loaded with Cheese for a delicious Cheesy Garlic Bread.

You can make Garlic Bread with any type of bread, but I find that the best bread to use is a Rustic Italian Ciabatta as it is porus and soaks up all of the flavour from the Garlic Butter.

The key to this Garlic Bread is making your own Garlic Butter, I have used some Salted Butter, Lazy Garlic and dry Sage, but you can use other herbs such as Basil or Coriander.

When you top this Garlic Bread with your favourite cheese then you have got the perfect side for any Italian meal.

    ingredients

    Ciabatta or Panini Bread
    60g Butter
    60g Cheese
1 tsp of Lazy or Chopped Garlic
1 tsp of Sage or Basil

    Cooking Instructions

    1. Soften the butter in a microwave so that you can mix it up into a soft paste with a spoon.
    2. Add the Garlic and the Sage to the Butter and mix the lot together, then set this aside for later.
    3. Using either a hand grater, grate up the Cheese. I have just used plain Cheddar Cheese but you can use any type of cheese you like, even a Red Leicester to add a nice bit of colour to the bread.
    4. Slice the Ciabatta through the centre so that you have two halves. I have used this type of Italian bread because of its porous, rustic texture that will soak up the Garlic Butter.
    5. Using a knife or the back of a spoon, spread the two halves of bread with a generous amount of butter, so that the whole slice is covered.
    6. Toast the bread under a pre-heated grill for a few minutes, so that the butter fully melts and the bread is slightly brown.
    7. Top the breads with the cheese, don't use too much as this will just make the Garlic Bread soggy, so just enough to cover the bread, Then return this to the grill so that the cheese can fully melt and slightly brown off.

If you want to use other bread give it a go, I found that ciabatta to be the best.
